We have been meaning to come here for some time – we live in Essex but stay in the New Forest usually 2 or 3 times a year and so glad we have now been! We booked initially for 2 and a dog for Sunday lunch, we then changed it to 4 people and then again on the day to 5 people and there were no issues. Arriving the pub was PACKED – a good sign and we were shown to our table amongst many who had turned up hoping just to walk in and have a table. The menu along with a specials board gave a good selection – naturally being a Sunday I opted for the Roast (but was tempted by other dishes) as did 2 others, 1 had cod and the other had steak pie. All 3 roasts (mine was pork, the others lamb and beef) were exceptionally good, nice size but the flavour was superb – just missing parsnips, but I did have a nice lump of crackling 🙂
Desserts were also fantastic – the best pub bread and butter pudding I have had. Service was great, great selection of drinks and staff very friendly.
As we enjoy Sunday lunch so much we actually returned the next day for lunch before hitting the road back to Essex – I had the cod and chips – lovely, good size and not greasy at all with lovely flavour.
Definitely will be returning next time in the area!!!
