Taken from Mike Power’s “Pub Walks In The New Forest” this is a short but very enjoyable woodland 2 mile walk.
Cross the road and turn left walking up then downhill passing several houses before reaching a gravel track on the left signed Crown Wood Stables.
30 paces along the drive bear left across the grass, join a dirt path and turn right.
Further down when you reach a clump of Birch trees take path on the left downhill through a Holly and Beech tree thicket.
After entering an area of grass fork left onto a fairly wide track which passes through a mature Oak and Beech wood.
Further on when the path reaches an area of damp grassland (can be very muddy in winter) keep straight ahead across the ditch then along a gully which leads up to the road.
Walk straight across into the tree opposite and bear right to reach a small brook.
Step across, and keeping level with the brook, walk for some distance until you reach a small wooden bridge at which point turn left, cross the bridge and follow the path into the trees ahead.
Maintain your direction through an open grass area, ignoring the cross track turning left when you reach the high brick wall.
Stay on the main track for some distance.
Cross the bridge and continue walking before reaching the wide cross track at which point turn left following it through the trees, out into the lane turning right back to the pub
